Small print under the bar:

Ahrefs data, December 2020 to May 2025, the peak of positions. Ahrefs estimates traffic from its own index, so traffic figures are an estimate rather than a counter reading; positions are measured directly. What changed after 2025 is covered in “What was hard” — we didn’t leave it out.

What the client brought

Omegarender makes architectural 3D visualization — exteriors, interiors, walkthrough animation. The markets are the US, the Gulf and Europe; the competition is studios that have been at this for decades, plus the big marketplaces.

December 2020: 465 keywords ranking, 42 of them in the Top 10, and an estimated 413 visits a month. Non-branded share of traffic — 25.4%. Three out of four visitors were typing the company name.

What that actually meant

The company was known to people who already knew it. Search wasn’t offering it to anyone else.

Build an organic channel that brings in people looking for 3D visualization, not people looking for Omegarender.

Which meant:

  • take the category queries, not the brand ones;
  • build a link profile in a niche with very few places to publish;
  • stay the course. In visual niches results arrive in years, not quarters.

Six years isn’t one plan. It’s a sequence of decisions about where to put a limited resource. Those decisions were made through our WEDGE framework.

W — Where the client can win

At the start the client filled in a competence map: verticals, services, software. Every row carries three scores — how easy this is to sell, what the company earns on it, where demand is heading.

What rose to the top:

VerticalSellEarnDemandRank
Real Estate2333
Event agencies1336
Design studios33210
Manufacturers32211

And among services: Virtual Staging and Digital Renovation ranked 7, product visualization for catalogues 7, VR 6.

On virtual staging the map says it plainly: “a really substantial, great niche”, with demand scored 3.

What sank: panoramas (22, 26, 27), site plans (25), commercial exteriors (27). The map gives the reasons: panoramas are “used very rarely,” commercial exteriors “generally unpopular,” budgets small.

E — Evaluate whether we can get in

The second screen produced the most interesting result here.

Developers and general contractors scored 3 on earnings — and ranked 24. The client’s own words in the map:

“The real golden audience — you can’t reach them by almost any means, not by outreach, not by meetings in their offices. You have to establish yourself in the industry, become visible, and only then can you approach companies like that.”

The money was there. The reach wasn’t.

So the output isn’t one direction but a queue: take Real Estate and Virtual Staging now, leave developers alone until authority accumulates.

⭐ Four years later the queue paid out

In April 2024 the project records a new direction toward developers and a budget increase.

The direction the 2020 map marked unreachable opened up once the site had weight. That’s what a queue is for: not “never,” but “not yet.”

D — Decode who decides

For the chosen directions we built three personas: developers, hospitality, restaurants. Alongside that ran positioning work and an analysis of how to change it.

Target publications for mentions were found through SparkToro — from what the audience actually reads rather than from rankings.

Personas here don’t sit in a document. The project has its own GPT agent that every brief passes through: it adjusts the specification to the relevant persona before it reaches a writer. A second agent does the same for paid ad copy — so the persona reaches the paid channels too, not only the content.

G — Guide them to a decision

Content was built around the chosen verticals. Real estate got its own service page, Dubai got a geo page, staging got /virtual-staging-services.

The choice reads as correct today: in the conversion data the Dubai geo page is the second-highest source of enquiries on the whole site, and the real estate and staging pages convert steadily.

E — Expand the coverage

A geo intersection. /3d-design-studio-dubai isn’t a service alone or a market alone but the combination. “3d rendering services” is the whole world and every competitor; “3d design studio dubai” is one market with visible demand.

Warming up outreach targets with display ads. There aren’t many publications covering 3D visualization, and their editors don’t rush to answer strangers. We pulled the target list and ran banner ads at those sites through the Google Display Network, so that by the time an email arrived the name already looked familiar. Reply rates rose noticeably.

Project phases:

PeriodWhat happened
2020–2021map, structure, audit, blog, outreach launch
February 2022site migration and redesign — positions dropped
September 2022a gamedev direction opened
April 2024the developers direction opened
May 2025peak positions
July 2026repositioning

Not only SEO: PPC with weekly summaries, PR, Webflow work, a running competitor analysis sheet.

One person, six years. The lead specialist logged 44% of all hours — 1,450 out of 3,295. The client never had to re-explain the project to a new face. That’s probably the single biggest reason it survived four changes of strategy.

Volume: 980 tasks, more than any other project in the agency bar one. An average of 46 hours a month for six years — steady, not in bursts.

Rhythm: a monthly cycle with a project review, a plan, an implementation check and a report. PPC summaries weekly.

AI Overviews took the informational traffic

From May 2025 the Ahrefs traffic estimate started falling — 13,632 down to 6,478 by September 2026. On a chart it looks like a disaster. It isn’t what happened.

The positions didn’t go. The clicks did.

Here’s what the data shows:

  • the number of the site’s pages appearing in results held flat across that period;
  • commercial queries stayed at positions 1 and 2 — “3d rendering services”, “render companies”, “3d rendering walkthrough”;
  • what dropped was the informational segment: how-to, what-is, types-of. Exactly the questions Google now answers itself, on the results page, with no click required.

3D visualization is a visual, explainer-heavy niche, which makes it one of the most exposed to AI Overviews. Traffic that used to arrive on explanatory articles now stops at the answer box.

The practical consequence. In 2026 an Ahrefs chart stopped being sufficient proof of anything. A site holding first positions on its money queries can show minus 50% “traffic” and not lose a single inquiry.

We don’t read this as a defeat. We do think it needs explaining, because otherwise the chart tells a lie.

The migration cost positions

In February 2022 the client migrated and redesigned. Positions dropped. Not a disaster, not anyone’s fault — this happens almost every time a site changes its structure. What mattered was catching it immediately and working it, instead of noticing six months later.

Positions, Ahrefs:

Inquiries. What’s interesting here isn’t the count but which pages convert:

PageShare of conversions
/ homemore than half
/3d-design-studio-dubaisecond
/best-3d-rendering-companieslevel with it
/3d-interior-rendering-servicesservice pages after that

The Dubai geo page brings in as many contacts as the best-studios roundup, and more than any service page.

Link profile: 865 referring domains point at the home page — more than at any other page on the site.

Work delivered: 980 tasks, 3,295 hours over six years.

A chosen direction, not accumulated volume. The competence map surfaced real estate and virtual staging, and pushed panoramas and commercial exteriors down. For six years the resource went where it paid back.

One specialist across the whole project. 44% of all hours logged by a single person. Four changes of strategy were carried by someone who remembered why each decision was made — not by a document.

More than search. PPC, PR, outreach with paid warm-up. A channel standing on one source breaks at the first update.

An unreachable direction means “not yet,” not “never.” Developers were out of reach in 2020 for lack of standing in the industry. By 2024, once that standing existed, the direction opened. Which is why the second screen should produce a queue rather than a single item.

Non-branded share beats total traffic. 25.4% to 99.4% means the channel stopped depending on recognition. Without that figure, a traffic multiple proves nothing.

A geo page beats a category page — certainly in visual niches. /3d-design-studio-dubai brings in more enquiries than any service page on the site. We got the same result on a second project in this niche.

Paid warm-up before outreach works. Display ads aimed at your target publication list, a few weeks before the email goes out, change how often editors reply.

In 2026 a traffic chart stopped being evidence. A site can hold first positions on commercial queries and still show minus 50% in Ahrefs. Look at positions on money queries and at inquiries, not at the curve.

Informational content in visual niches is the first thing AI Overviews take. If your blog lives on how-to and what-is, plan for that now.

Long projects survive on people, not process. Six years, four changes of strategy, one lead specialist.

The project is ongoing. In July 2026 the client changed positioning and the site was rebuilt. Current focus: holding the commercial core, and rebuilding content for a results page where Google answers the informational questions itself.

Sound familiar?

A visual niche, a long horizon, a need to get past brand traffic. We’ve been working exactly that for six years running.

Питання

How long before results?

Longer here than in most niches. Getting from 42 to 2,146 Top 10 keywords took four and a half years. The first real movement showed inside year one.

Can these numbers be verified?

Yes. All positions and traffic come from Ahrefs for omegarender.com. Anyone with access sees the same thing, including the drop in the traffic estimate after 2025 that we explain above.

Traffic in Ahrefs is falling — why do you say this is fine?

Because the click estimate is falling, not the positions. Pages stay in results, commercial queries hold at 1 and 2, and AI Overviews absorbed a chunk of the informational traffic. That’s an industry shift of 2025–2026, not a problem with this site.

Do you handle PPC and PR, or only SEO?

On this project, all of it. Long projects in competitive niches rarely stand on one channel.

What should we do if the site is migrating or being redesigned?

Plan for a dip and budget time to recover. Here the 2022 migration cost positions — a fair price if you prepare for it rather than discover it after the fact.
