For founders and CEOs

Marketing without a CMO. For now — or for good

If you have no marketing director, we take on part of that job: markets, directions, buyer profiles, the plan. What stays with you is the decisions, not the mental load.

Sound familiar?

Marketing hangs on you. Between hiring, sales and day-to-day operations you also decide which directions to promote. Those calls get made in the gaps between other things, and they cost like strategy.

You looked for a CMO and did not find one. Someone who understands your product and B2B at the same time is rare. While you keep looking, the clock runs.

Agencies ask you for the strategy. They turn up asking which way to go — and wait for you to answer. Which is the thing you were paying them for.

You cannot tell what is working. Traffic reports arrive. An answer to which pages bring enquiries does not.

The most expensive decision in marketing is not how much to spend. It is what to spend it on — and that one usually gets made fastest.

What we take on

Not “posting on social” — the marketing director’s actual job

We do not replace a CMO outright: brand, product marketing and the sales team stay with you. But the part that covers demand, search and content, we close completely.

Market and direction analysis

Where to go first, where in six months, and where not to go at all. With numbers on how fast each market moves, not a gut feel.

Profiles of the people who decide

Not “our audience is B2B companies” but a specific person: what they know, what they fear, what they need to see. Those profiles sit inside every content brief.

A plan, and the work behind it

A monthly plan, a dedicated project manager, reporting on what was delivered. You approve it — or delegate that too.

How we decide

Not “from experience” — from a framework

WEDGE is five steps answering one question: where to put a limited budget. We have applied it to more than twenty companies over six years.

Where — the competence map: your directions, scored by you and by us

Evaluate — whether you can get in; the output is a queue, not one item

Decode — who signs the contract and what stops them

Guide — content across every stage of the decision

Expand — external mentions and the intersections between directions

Step W is the one that matters most to you. Expertise, sellability and margin are scored by you, not by us. That is a few hours of your team’s time, and every decision after it rests on your own numbers.

What you get

Less in your head, more on paper

A ranked list of directions — and the reasoning behind that order

The potential × reachability matrix: take now, take later, never

Profiles of the people who decide in your directions

A monthly work plan as an annex to the contract

Reporting where every task, hour and external payment is visible

An answer to which pages bring enquiries, where we have access to the data

There is a worn-out phrase, “strategic partner”. We don’t like phrases like that, so here it is concretely: our median client engagement runs four years, and three clients left and came back.

Questions

What we get asked most

Do you replace our CMO completely?

No, and promising that would be dishonest. Brand, product marketing, pricing and the sales team stay with the company. We close demand, search and content — and we make the calls inside that zone ourselves, so they are not landing on your desk every week.

How much of my time will this take?

At the start, a few hours of your team’s time to fill in the competence map. After that, once a month: approve the plan, read the report. If you do not want even that, delegate the plan to us and we hold to the schedule.

What if we hire a CMO later?

A normal outcome, and one we have been through. The filled-in map, the direction matrix and the buyer profiles stay with you — the new marketing director inherits a working base instead of spending six months getting up to speed.

What does it cost to start?

The competence map is free; you fill it in yourselves. Market analysis is $30–40 per market. That is the entire up-front cost of finding out whether this is worth continuing.

Start with the competence map

A few hours of your team’s time and you will see a ranked list of your own directions. Free, and yours whether or not we work together.
